Elias Nassar - Chair Elias is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Dean at Notre Dame University, Lebanon. After receiving his PhD from the Ohio State University in the USA, he has worked with students for over ten years as a Faculty member, Student Branch counselor, WIE Affinity Group advisor and Section Chair. His goal is to make sure student member concerns are addressed and that their ideas and projects get realized for the purpose of advancing their technical and professional skills. As Vice-Chair for Student Activities in Region 8, he coordinates the team in their continuing effort to add an extra value in IEEE membership for students in Region 8. |

Jorge Soares - Student Representative Jorge is a Communication Networks Engineer and a PhD student in Distributed and Cognitive Robotics at Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal and Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland. He was Chair of the IEEE IST Student Branch, where he organized the first IEEE Iberian Student Branch Congress. He now serves as Mentor of the IST and UNL Student Branches. His role as Student Representative is to enhance the dialogue between all Region 8 students and the Committee, both for proposing new projects and for making members aware of the possibilities their membership gives them. |

Eva Lang - Past Chair Eva works at the Institute for Software Systems in Technical Applications of Computer Science at the University of Passau, Germany. Besides the project work she pursues her PhD degree in Computer Science, focusing on Image Processing and Texture Analysis. She was 2008 Region 8 GOLD Chair and has been involved with Student and GOLD activities since 2004. As the Past Chair, she supports all the former ongoing activities and serves as a transition to newer projects. |

Djordje (George) Paunović - Student Paper Contest Coordinator George is Professor emeritus in Telecommunications at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade. His main scientific results are in the fields of radio channel modeling and electric field strength prediction and he has been leading chartered project engineer in several dozens of major projects. He has been an IEEE member for 25 years and has been involved as an IEEE volunteer at several positions including Yugoslavia Section Chair, IEEE Serbia and Montenegro Com Chapter Chair, Chair of the Telecommunications Forum TELFOR and IEEE R8 Vice Chair Technical Activities (2007,2008). Within our team he is in charge of the Student Paper Contest. |

Hossam Fahmy - Web Activities Coordinator Hossam is studying Electronics and Electrical Communications Engineering at Cairo University, Egypt. He was the vice-chair of the Cairo University Student Branch, and leader of a team who won the IEEE Student Enterprise Award. He was also the SB's webmaster, leading it to the 3rd place of the IEEE Student Branch Website Contest 2009 and the 1st place of the 2010 MGA Website Contest. He is the Student Representative of the Egypt Section and its webmaster. As a Web Activities Coordinator, he is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the R8 SAC website and its general web presence, including social networks, as well as engaging R8 students though the use of online communities. |

Jef Beerten - Awards and Contest Coordinator Jef works at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Leuven (K.U.Leuven), Belgium. He is pursuing his PhD degree in power engineering, focusing on power system control and multi-terminal HVDC. He was involved in the organization of the Region 8 Student Branch and GOLD Congress (SBC) 2010 and has been the chairman of the student branch Leuven since 2009. As Awards and Contest Coordinator, he is responsible of the coordination of major awards and contests at the regional level as well as promoting the organization of contests at the more local level. |

Simay Akar - Student Branch Coordinator Simay is a student at Middle East Technical University (METU), Sociology Department. Since she joined IEEE in 2007, she served many different positions. At the IEEE METU Student Branch, she served as Executive Board Chair (2010-2011), Executive Board Vice-Chair (2009-2010) and Chair of Media Relations Committee, and is currently serving as Student Branch Mentor. At the IEEE Turkey Section, Simay led the “Twin Student Branches Project” as coordinator in the 2009-2011 term. She was part of the ISBIR (IEEE Student Branches Industry Relations) project task force. As Student Branch Coordinator, her role is to oversee and support student branch operations in Region 8. |

Sohaib Qamar Sheik - Electronic Communications Coordinator Sohaib is a telecommunications engineer, currently doing his research in Mobile Adhoc Networks at City University London. He was Vice-Chair of the Queen Mary, University of London student branch where he organized the UK&RI Section Student Branch Congress in 2011, and part of the organizing committee of ICIET 2007 and ICIET 2010. In 2010, he was the GINI Industry Relations representative for Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad sections in Region 10. As Electronic Communications Coordinator, he is responsible for enhancing communication between R8 SAC and students in the region. He is also responsible for Pre-University Activities, as the SAC representative to the Education Activities Subcommittee. |
