IEEE (pronounced eye-triple-ee) is short for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Despite the name, the IEEE is a leading authority on areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics among others. IEEE more than 400,000 members in more than 160 countries.

 

At the National Engineering School of Sfax (ENIS) in Tunisia, the IEEE student branch provides many services which you will find beneficial such as workshops, technical presentations, career networking events and more. Through events such as speakers, industry tours and technical courses, IEEE SB ENIS focuses on extending the educational and technical experience of students in computer science engineering and electrical engineering.

 


The IEEE ENIS SB was established on April 1st, 2009. By January 2011, the Student Branch counts 120 Graduate Students and 31 Undergraduate students. We represent about 50% of members in Tunisia Section. <download ENIS SB presentation (june 2011)>

 

 

As a student branch, IEEE ENIS SB depends mainly on volunteers to organize the events and activities held by the branch. Volunteers can come from any department whether within National School of Engineers of Sfax or from other institutes.Becoming an IEEE volunteer can be a gratifying and memorable experience. Whether your skills are suited for organizing conferences and meetings, financial reporting, communicating or maintaining web sites, chances are your local Section or Society is in need of someone with your expertise.As an IEEE volunteer, you can take pride in participating in activities that interest you, while expanding your knowledge of the IEEE, gaining valuable management and leadership skills, and connecting with others in your profession.

2010-04-18, IEEE CUSB Annual Festival IEEE Cairo University Student Branch

IEEE CUSB organized an event in the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University to honor a list of 37 students who won in different contests in name of IEEE CUSB over the last year and the current year. The event was honored by the presence of Prof. Samir Shaheen, IEEE Egypt Section Chairman, Prof. Nevin Darwish, IEEE Egypt SAC Head, Dr. Mohamed Khairy, IEEE Egypt Section Treasurer and IEEE CUSB Counselor and Prof. Hanafy Elzohairy, the vice dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

The event started by a speech given by Hossam Ali, IEEE CUSB chairman who talked about the branch achievements through the last and the current year, then the speech moved to Prof. Samir Shaheen who talked about IEEE role in community service, IEEE Egypt Section goals and the plans for more promising engineering future.
Prof. Nevin Darwish talked about the importance of the hard work and the will to be useful for the society and how important is it to keep on the summit after achieving it which is most difficult but not impossible. Dr. Mohamed Khairy talked about the branch work after reactivating it last year and the dedication of the previous and the current officers who worked hard with the specialist teams who made the dream be real.
After that the professors gave the winner students the honoring certificates and then a courtesy photo was taken.

We wouldn’t let 2009 to pass without a closure for IEEE 125th Anniversary Celebration; IEEE CUSB organized a trip to “Salah El-Din” Citadel. The Citadel is well known as one of the historical monuments in Egypt. The trip managed mainly to introduce the new IEEE members who joined the branch recently to each other, and made close bonds between them through interesting and funny games and of course introducing IEEE role more to them. It was a fantastic day that started at 9:00 AM and ended at 5:00 PM.

After a wonderful year full of awards and achievements, IEEE CUSB managed to crown its series of awards by winning the third place in the IEEE International Student Branch Web Site Contest. “What a wonderful 2009 closure, we never thought that we can do that, thanks to my team and to IEEE CUSB staff whom without we wouldn’t go that far” said by Hossam Ali, IEEE CUSB chairman continuing his comment “Next year our eyes are on the 1st place”. It is worth mentioning that IEEE CUSB was qualified to the IEEE International Student Branch Web Site Contest at the mid of the past year after it placed second in IEEE Region 8 Web Site Contest.

Professor Fabri shall be awarded the 2009 "IEEE Outstanding Branch Counselor and Advisor Award" during the Awards Night Ceremony.  The Certificates for participation and also for the titles won on in the IEEE Robowars Summer Challenge and IEEE Robot Wars - The Revenge shall be presented by Prof. Jozef Modelski, IEEE Region 8 Director.

2009-12-11, IEEE CUSB compete in IEEEXtreme IEEE Cairo University Student Branch

For 24 hours, 6 teams from Cairo University representing IEEE CUSB competed in IEEEXTREME.

A competitive, hot and enthusiasm surrounding, that was the thing in the lab that witnessed this great event, every team cooperating, trying to work out the different algorithms looking for an advanced position among different teams all over the world. The competition wasn’t easy as well, but this didn’t step back the participants who were insisting to solve the algorithms and win this competition.However, this struggle ended up with the one team left at the end of the 24 hours, who placed the 90th over all the teams participated all over the world. “It doesn’t matter who win, but it was really great experience, and we consider ourselves winners with the joy and experience we gained today” said by the 90th place team leader.

A new IEEE Student Branch committee has been formed to build upon the work of the previous one, and to further promote IEEE towards students.

2008-06-19, We have won the first place at IEEE R8 Student Branch Website Competition! :) IEEE Neareast University Student Branch Blog
Congratulations! From 39 IEEE student branches in region 8 we have came the first! :)
The second stage is where all the regions compete including Asia, Canada and the USA. Wish us luck on the final competition!

2008-03-15, We Have Celebrated The Pi Day! IEEE Neareast University Student Branch Blog

You don't know what Pi is?

Pi, Greek letter (π), is the symbol for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi = 3.1415926535... Pi Day is celebrated by math enthusiasts around the world on March 14th.

On March 14th at 1:59 pm (thats 3.14159) we have celebrated the Pi Day by the pool. Due to the lectures a few could join us but we had the best time! Theres 363 Days to the next Pi Day :) Hope to see you that day!
